Nutrition, derived from the Latin word nutrire, meaning to nourish, has shown increased interest and concern among people as they begin to really question where and most importantly how their food is made before hitting the plate. In the modern era, nutrition is primarily associated with food so that is mainly what will be discussed during a nutrition consultation. However, the concept of nourishment in the way of taking-in as with food, holistically stems from our innate abilities to complete the entire cycle with digestion or assimilation and excretion. In other words, what goes in must come out. And what we see today, that happens to not always be the case…
For instance, we find toxic heavy metals from pesticides, herbicides, and radioactive isotopes from nuclear industry fallout concentrated in not only the food we eat, but our bodily organs and tissues. In return, these radioactive isotopes and heavy metals such as mercury, lead, and copper, have become some of the modern day leading causes of dis-ease. There is much to say about our current food chain, however when we get to the root cause of the issues at hand we can then begin implementing foods and lifestyle choices that break the chain of misinformation and assist healing. Fortunately, there are methods and specific foods and nutritional supplements that have become nourishing antidotes for people— even in the midst of innumerable pseudo diet trends that claim to be the ultimate panacea.
At the end of the day, eating is a sensual experience. From the aroma of fresh herbs on roasting potatoes to the sight of a fruit’s color that catches our eye in the market, food is meant to be nourishing for the mind, body, and soul—where the physical meets the metaphysical. This is why we gather with family and friends and spend time in the kitchen preparing for special holiday meals or parties or it breaks our heart when we hear about starvation around the world. Feelings of pleasurable fulfillment are some of life’s greatest joys and by switching up the seasonings to correspond more harmoniously with our modern day trials and tribulations, we can embark together on a revitalizing journey.
The nutrition consultation is oriented in a way that explores elemental foundations of earth, water, fire, air, and ether as guidelines to recommending nutrient dense foods and supplements. Food as we are, is made of these elemental qualities and so when one shifts out of balance we can better understand why that is and how to work with it.
So let’s get brewing.
